Meru Networks recently announced the availability of the a new outdoor Wi-Fi access point that is said to provide more than 10 times the data throughput of the company’s previous outdoor access points.
The Meru OAP433e (pdf), a three-radio, three-stream 802.11n outdoor access point, reportedly delivers 1.3 GB/s throughput for about $2,000 a pop (less controllers and clients). Their previous outdoor access point provided around 108 MB/s.
The new access point is integrated with the Meru System Director 5, a virtual wireless operating system that effectively controls and optimizes wireless connectivity.
Through its unique Air Traffic Control technology, System Director 5 enables thousands of devices and applications to seamlessly access network resources simultaneously, ensuring equal access for all. Meru says traditional “client in control” architectures is unable to provide the scale necessary and often provides inconsistent reliability, especially as users move from place to place.
