Beginning Oct. 7, AT&T will offer a cheaper prepaid Smartphone Rate Plan. The new Monthly Unlimited Plan for GoPhone smartphone customers offers unlimited talk and text, with 1 GB of data for $65 per month. Unlimited text messaging to Mexico, Canada and over 100 other countries is also included.

This new plan is specially designed for smartphone users, and saves them $10 per month compared to previously available options, according to AT&T.

The $50 monthly plan with unlimited talk and text and the $25 monthly plan with 250 minutes and unlimited nationwide text with optional data packages will continue to be available to smartphone customers.

Launching in conjunction with this new smartphone rate plan is AT&T GoPhone’s newest Android device, AT&T Fusion 2, a 3G phone which lets customers enjoy the convenience of a smartphone with email, apps and web access for $99.

With the change in pricing, AT&T is undercutting the price of Verizon’s similar plan by $15. Verizon’s $80 prepaid smartphone plan, introduced May 1, also includes unlimited voice, texting and 1 GB of data.

Other prepaid plans include MetroPCS with a promotional $55 LTE smartphone plan, which bundles unlimited voice, text and data and Leap Wireless with an unlimited voice, texting and 1 GB data plan for $50 per month. Sprint’s Virgin Mobile offers unlimited voice, texting and data (including access to Clearwire’s mobile WiMAX network) for $55 per month.
