ReadWrite is relaunching with a new name, a new design and a new editor – Dan Lyons, previously a senior editor at Forbes magazine and author of the Fake Steve Jobs.
Lyons killed the Fake Steve Jobs parody when he found out about the real Steve Jobs health, but his work set a new standard for tech writing that was at once brilliant, funny and insightful. Dan Lyons is the new Editor-in-Chief of ReadWrite.
The site has been rebuilt with a tablet-first approach, not unlike The Verge. They used responsive design with a proprietary publishing system called Orion. Responsive design uses fluid grids, flexible images and queries to deliver a quality experience from phones to desktops.
Lyons says:
We’re doubling down on mobile, because that’s where the action is. The mobile computing wave is the biggest thing that’s happened in the 25 years that I’ve been writing about technology. But it’s more than that. Mobile devices combined with social networks are evolving into a new mass medium that will displace television and define our age.
Last year ReadWriteWeb was acquired by Say Media. I thought ReadWrite would be turned into a content farm like the soulless (and unreadable) Digital Trends.
The old ReadWriteWeb put me to sleep. The new ReadWrite promises to kick ass.
