MetroPCS Simplifies Pricing

MetroPCS is rolling out simpler, three level 4G LTE plans. The plans offer unlimited 4G LTE data, text and talk for $60/month, 2.5GB for $50/month, and unlimited data with 500MB at $40/month which will also include unlimited talk and text.

New LTE phones from MetroPCS include the $149 LG Motion 4G, the $149 Huawei Activa 4G and $149, ZTE Avid 4G offer enriched services like integrated instant messaging or chat, WiFi and video calling. They also supports MetroPCS’ 4GLTE Mobile Hotspot service for an additional monthly charge.

MetroPCS is merging with T-Mobile USA. But it’s not a done deal yet.

MetroPCS currently has 19 markets running 4G LTE in 2X5MHz channels, but MetroPCS shares CDMA and LTE on their AWS band, so their 4G data speeds are similar to 3G speeds.

The band will have to be cleared of CDMA before it can be repurposed entirely for LTE. Meanwhile, the MetroPCS LTE service is “LTE” in name only. Don’t expect lightning speed.
