Archos Platinum Tablets Ship

Archos has launched their Platinum 8, 9.7, and 11.6 inch tablets with quad-core chips. Liliputing notes that Archos has been showing off its new Platinum line of Android tablets with quad-core chips since the Consumer Electronics Show. But now the company’s making those tablets official, and promising to ship the first models this month.

The Archos Platinum tablets are each equipped with 1.2 GHz Allwinner A-31 quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processors with 8-core graphics and support for 1080p HD video decoding. They feature 2GB of RAM, mini HDMI and microSD card ports, front and back cameras, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software, and access to the Google Play Store. They also each have IPS displays with wide viewing angles.

They differ in size, screen resolution, and price:

  • The Archos 80 Platinum has an 8 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel display and will sell for $199 (or £179 in the UK). It should be available in February.
  • The Archos 97 Platinum has a 9.7 inch, 2048 x 1536 pixel display and will sell for $299 (£249) in February.
  • The Archos 116 Platinum has an 11.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel screen and will be available in April for $349 (£299).

The 8 and 9.7 inch tablets are actually rebadged Chinese tablets with the Archos name.
