Android Authority dares to compare the iPad Mini against the new Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Perhaps the biggest difference is the Samsung 8″ tablet can also make phone calls.

Both the Apple iPad Mini and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 use a mediocre IPS LCD display. The Samsung 8 incher has a display resolution of 1280 by 800 at a 16:10 aspect ratio, with a pixel density of 189, compared to the Apple iPad Mini with a 7.9 inch display at 1024 by 768 resolution with a 4:3 ratio with a pixel density of 162.

Of course software is the thing. Samsung may have to price it under $300 to keep it competitive with Apple.

The newly announced $249 ASUS Fonepad, is also a 7-inch tablet that’s also a 7-inch phone. The ASUS Fonepad resembles the Asus-built Nexus 7 in both size and software, running Android 4.1.2.

But the 7″ Asus Fonepad is powered by an Intel Atom Z2420 CPU — a 1.2GHz single-core part with HyperThreading tech. There’s also 1GB of RAM and 8 or 16GB of internal storage, backed up by a microSD card slot.
