The phones are ringing at Overland Park. Sprint’s headquarters appears to be swimming with buyouts, takeovers and spectrum bids. The latest from Verizon.
Verizon reportedly offered to buy Clearwire spectrum leases for $1.5 billion, reports C/Net. Apparently, Clearwire has disclosed an offer to buy 2.6 GHz spectrum for between $1 billion and $1.5 billion dollars, from which the present price of the spectrum leases would be deducted.
Clearwire says it is still evaluating the decision, and a spokesperson has declined to comment.
The news comes today as Dish announced a $25 Billion take over attempt for Sprint. In December, Sprint announced that it would be buying out Clearwire for about $2.2 billion, but soon after Japanese carrier Softbank proposed a merger with Sprint. Dish also made a bid for Clearwire, then followed it up by trying to buy Sprint itself for $25.5 billion.
