The Galaxy Gear will be powered by the Android operating system and potentially beating a competing wrist product from Apple. Samsung’s device is expected to be unveiled Sept. 4, two days before the IFA consumer electronics show begins in Berlin.
The Galaxy Gear could be an accessory to the company’s Galaxy smartphones, allowing calls to be answered and made, but via a Bluetooth connection to the handset. The Gear won’t use Samsung’s flexible display technology, however, as that’s not quite ready for prime time
According to Bloomberg, Apple has a team of around 100 designers working on “a wristwatch-like device that may perform some of the tasks now handled by the iPhone and iPad”.
The benefits of a watch phone include being instantly accessible to answer calls, difficult to lose or forget, not likely to be dropped, and difficult to steal.
