Nokia’s Innovation Reinvented event in Abu Dhabi next month will host the launch of at least six new devices, says The Verge, including at least two new Lumias. Nokia’s 1020 was announced earlier. It features a 41 megapixel camera sensor, optical image stabilization and high-resolution zoom.
Up to this point, the expected high point of the October 22nd Nokia World event has been the debut of the 6-inch Lumia 1520. The Lumia 1520 will include a Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon and the latest version of Windows Phone 8. Now it appears Nokia is planning a “large range” of form factors and devices, perhaps even larger like the rumored Lumia 2520 Windows RT tablet, a 10.1-inch tablet with a quad-core Qualcomm processor and 1080p display.
Nokia has since agreed to sell its hardware division to Microsoft, but the late introduction could make for a fine last hurrah for Nokia before it gets absorbed by Microsoft, says The Verge.
Nokia admitted on Tuesday that Elop had received a contract that seemed to have been designed to guarantee a quick $25 million pay-off if Elop was able to sell the handset unit. According to the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper, Nokia is now scrambling to contain the public relations damage the ongoing drama is causing.
Bumping him down from CEO would have been an issue (he could have deemed the demotion of “breach” of contract), and both Nokia and Elop felt that the move didn’t count as a resignation. So, to keep the deal train on the rails, the contract was amended to ensure that Elop got his full potential exit stash, while not forcing him to actually resign.
