Dropcam, a leading Wi-Fi video monitoring camera and cloud service, today launched Dropcam Pro, with improved video performance, audio, and wireless connectivity. Dropcam Pro also incorporates Bluetooth low energy (BLE) for connecting to sensors and other devices in the home.
It features a six-element, all-glass lens, a larger image sensor for better performance in low-light conditions, 130-degree field of view, and pinch-to-zoom with an enhance feature that supports up to 8x digital zoom for Dropcam Pro and 4x zoom for Dropcam. Dropcam enables you to setup live webcams easily.
Live video monitoring is free. Optional Cloud Video Recording (CVR) plans are $9.95/month for seven days of continuous recording, $29.95/month for thirty days. Mobile viewing is possible using their apps.
I’m thinking of using one one of these for my Hayden Island cam on the Columbia River. I’m currently trying to setup a livecam using a Fosscam FI 9821W, a pan/tilt camera with 720p resolution. But all the port forwarding and interface issues are a hassle. It might make a sweet accessory for a Windows 8 tablet, too (with a built-in LTE connection).
