While the Android platform now maintains the majority market share by far, reports Strategy Analytics, especially outside the US, but for contestants other than Samsung the profits are slim or none, reports C/Net.

But Apple’s mobile platform, iOS, accounts for more than 50 percent of mobile Internet usage, according to Net Market Share research.

Net Market gathered mobile and tablet worldwide market share of operating system usage for November 2013, and showed Apple’s significant dominance.

It’s been four years since the company unveiled the iPad. Next year Apple could do it again. But they’ll probably have real competition (in China and elsewhere) from Android-based smart phones like the $180 Moto G or sub-$200 Android tablets.
