Walt Mossberg’s last column for the Wall Street Journal reviews his top 12 products over the last two decades.

Mossberg says the products had to improve ease of use and add value for average consumers. That was the guiding principle he laid down in the first sentence of his first column, in 1991:

“Personal computers are just too hard to use, and it’s not your fault.”

Walt Mossberg’s clarity and insight on behalf of computer users was broadly admired. Mossberg and co-executive editor Kara Swisher have reportedly been in talks with NBCUniversal, Bloomberg, and Cox, where he’ll continue doing reviews “on a new online site”.
