Netgear Readies 4 Radio Router

SmallNetBuilder says a 4 radio R7500 Nighthawk router was shown at a NETGEAR seminar in Taipei at the end of May.

The Quad-stream Wi-Fi router is described as running on a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor in contrast with the R7000, which is based on a 1 GHz Broadcom BCM4709A SoC. It has two USB 3.0 and one eSATA port for sharing storage and printers.

No word on the chipsets used in the R7500. Both Quantenna and Qualcomm-Atheros have announced four-stream “Wave 2″ 802.11ac chipsets supporting Multi-User MIMO. The ASUS’ RT-AC87U uses Quantenna’s chipset.

But the MU-MIMO feature appears to be not yet fully baked, according to Tim Higgins, because the R7500 is described only as “MU-MIMO Ready”.

I wonder what some 5GHz BaseStation Sectors would do for long range performance.
