Google I/O 2014

Google’s 2014 I/O Conference is having their opening keynote today (You Tube stream). The company 2-hour press event started at 9 AM PT. Live coverage of the conference is available from Engadget, The Verge, AnandTech and Twit.tv.

Google announced at its I/O developer conference that it now boasts over 1 billion monthly-active users on its Android platform. That’s up from a 538 million figure from last year’s I/O.

The event is said to be bringing a multitude of new products and service announcements, rumored to include the “L” version of Android, Android Wear smartwatches, a new line of “Android Silver” smartphones, a second-generation Chromebook Pixel, an “Android TV” set-top box, Project Tango tablets, and Google Glass announcements.

Google’s head of Android, Sundar Pichai, did something a bit different this year, confirming yesterday ahead of the event that Google will be touching on some of these rumored products.
