NPR Captions Election Coverage

National Public Radio’s “Election 2008” coverage will offer nine hours of live streaming and multimedia capabilities on November 4, from 8:00PM to 5:00AM (ET). The network will have reporters positioned with the campaigns and in more than two dozen sites around the country.

White Spaces: Green Light from FCC Report

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin said today that he will support allowing conditional unlicensed use of the so-called “white spaces” television spectrum. The FCC will soon release a report on the feasibility of opening up unused spectrum, or white spaces, for use with wireless broadband, reports Reuters. PBS Switches to AMC-21 Satellite

Less than two months after the launch of its AMC-21 satellite, SES AMERICOM, announced that the Ku-band spacecraft is operational and delivering content and connectivity for leading broadcasters and mobile broadband service providers.

Wireless Camcorder Does HD

Hitachi has prototyped a digital camcorder that can stream HD video over Wi-Fi networks. Video being shot live, or recorded on its internal hard drive, transmits the HD video compressed in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 through an 802.11g module in an SD card.

AT&T Dumps Dish for DirecTV

DirecTV, the largest U.S. satellite television provider, said on Friday it has reached an agreement with AT&T to offer a co-branded package of video, home phone, wireless phone and Internet service, starting Feb. 1, 2009.
