Android Phone to be Announced Sept 23

T-Mobile is expected to announce their Android phone on Sept. 23, according to the Wall Street Journal. The “HTC Dream” is due to hit stores as at the end of October. The phone’s pricing is still unclear although previous reports have pegged it at $199 (with a 2 year contract), $399 without a contract.

Mobile Search with My Location

Google has announced Mobile Search with My Location, for devices running on Windows Mobile. By either using GPS or cell-ID, Google can tap into your location and deliver location-specific information. It uses the Gears Geolocation API to approximates your actual location using the same Cell ID technology used by Google maps for mobile.

Sprint’s WiMAX service, Xohm will partner with location-based content providers including uLocate Communications, AccuWeather, Navteq and other services, said Art Spivy, director of content and community services for Xohm. Eye-Fi’s SD memory cards come with built-in WiFi, allowing ordinary cameras to transmit photos over nearby WiFi hotspots. But WiFi drains the battery, so the ability to turn the wireless feature on and off is a much desired feature.
