iPhone Voice over WiFi

Truphone demonstrated Voice over Wi-Fi using the Apple iPhone at DEMOfall 07 this week. Chief executive officer James Tagg made the VoIP call in front of an audience of 350 delegates.

Truphone also works on the latest ‘dual-mode’ WiFi phones including the Nokia E60, E61, E61i, E65, E70 E90, N80 Internet Edition and N95. Truphone also showed versions also working on the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet, the new HP Smartphone and Windows Mobile devices like the DASH.

The company will also demonstrate an application that mashes up social networking site Facebook and traditional telephony. Any Facebook user will be able to click on a friend’s Truphone ‘Call Me’ button, and a free phone call will be initiated to whichever phone their friend has chosen. This will mean free calls to real phones for everyone in the Facebook community, says the company.

BlogNation says the alpha-alpha version isn’t yet ready for prime time but thinks it’s huge news. Especially for AT&T.

DailyWireless has more on Demo 07.
